Taylor's Fishmongers

Sussex>Eastbourne>Eastbourne Restaurants>Taylor's Fishmongers

Why:It's not the most obvious location to find Eastbourne's best place for fish and seafood but The Enterprise Shopping Centre next to the town's main railway station is indeed home to one of Eastbourne's hidden secrets, Taylor's Fishmongers.
Darrell and Sam have been running the indoor stall for 3 years but a few months ago they decided to plonk down a couple of tables and start cooking the fish and shellfish on sale at their counter.
The result is that they're moving to bigger premises in February, albeit two indoor stalls down the aisle. Their success is down to their simple honest cooking of simple honest food. Nothing too fancy - although the mango, melon, avocado and chilli salsa that accompanies most dishes is unusually good. On a typical day expect to find oysters (1), a smoked seafood chowder (4), local red gurnard (8), crispy tiger prawns (7), pan-fried Rye Bay scallops (9) or salt-and-pepper squid (7).
One of the upsides of the basic cafe format is that it's one of those dying breed of BYO establishments - and best of all they don't even charge corkage! So no need to fork out over 30 for a bottle of Sancerre....
