Area Covered:This guide covers Hastings and the surrounding area which includes St Leonard's-on-Sea, Bulverhythe, Hollington, Ore, Guestling, Three Oaks, Westfield, Pett, Cliff End and Fairlight.
Where:At the far end of the A21, in the heart of 1066 Country, Hastings is situated in East Sussex on the South Coast between Rye and Eastbourne.
Why Visit:Hastings is a tradional English seaside resort and a great place to go for a weekend away as there is much to do here. Apart from the pebbly beach and traditional amusements, the Old Town offers lots of quirky, independent shops, paricularly galleries, books and bric-a-brac. In fact, Hastings is home to the largest beach-launched fishing fleet in Europe. Many will recognised Hastings not just from history lessons but also from the series TV of Foyle's War which was largely filmed here. A pleasant stroll along the seafront promenade brings you to St Leonard's-on-Sea much of which was designed by Decimus Burton and his beautiful Regency architecture can still be admired today. Both Hastings and St Leonards are well served by trains to and from London, Brighton and Ashford International.
Places of Interest:For simply stunning views we recommend the Hastings Country Park which offers 660 acres of beautiful coastal walks. Britain's steepest funicular railway is the quickest and most fun way of getting there from fishing fleet at Rock-a-Nore. For film-lovers visit the Electric Palace cinema in the old High Street, where volunteers show a great selection of movies. This tiny independent cinema sells organics wines, beers and snacks, the perfect accompaniment to any great film. Hastings Museum and Art Gallery is worth a visit if only for it's Turner watercolour of the town.
